Campaign FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are we having a campaign?

At Henry Ford College (HFC) and the majority of other colleges and universities, tuition and fees do not cover the full cost of a college education. The purpose of the Investing in the Future Campaign is to raise private philanthropic support that will fund strategic objectives of HFC.

The College currently has three main sources of revenue: 1) tuition and fees; 2) state appropriations; and 3) local tax revenue. The Investing in the Future Campaign aims to attract a fourth revenue source, private philanthropic support from organizations and individuals. This new funding stream will augment our current revenue sources for the betterment of the institution.

How is this different from the normal fundraising year to year?

A comprehensive campaign focuses specifically on initiatives that are considered high priority for the College and community that are not covered by our other funding sources.  These initiatives are determined by community outreach through a feasibility study.  Our regular fundraising is also important since these funds continue to support scholarships and other student support activities.

Where does the College obtain its funding?

Like other state colleges and universities, we receive appropriations from the state, which are combined with tuition and property taxes collected from the College district.  Increasingly, philanthropic support plays an essential role in providing additional resource for our students.

How long is the campaign and how will HFC Foundation conduct this effort?

The campaign will probably last a few years and will be completed in phases. The first phase is the lead gift phase, which we are just starting. We’re asking our important supporters to consider helping us launch this campaign in a significant way.  Later, we will have a phase called major gifts, where we’ll be asking additional companies, corporations, foundations and individuals to support our efforts. Finally, we will have the public phase.
